Now 18, Pat spent much of his youth in various forms of delinquency. Until they were sealed, his records included, memorably: one instance of accused kidnapping-- probably a same-age girl he was seeing or a friend in need of abortion/escape from problematic situation/etc., or even a well-intended babysitting fiasco, feel free to volunteer; 3-4 fights at and around school; thefts, e.g., of cars; fire-setting, probably from an experiment gone wrong. Specifically, he was one of those delinquents that didn't look especially badass doing it. Never popular in high school, he lost the little gang of friends he led, mostly, when three-quarters of them grew up and moved out; the others hold more regular jobs than he does. He is adopted and his parents (anybody up let me know) are probably pretty decent folks who ghjslkgh at him often for his total failure to capitalize on available resources. Some of his teachers think he's smart.
He is now what some refer to as a loser and most certainly a weirdo! He pulls C's in community college (on our island), directionless, patently lacking in aspiration. He sometimes works at Starbucks because Starbucks is everywhere. He also might work at a bookstore. I guess the Starbucks could be at a bookstore. But he needs three jobs, so he also works intermittently at a fish and tackle place and local grocery store. He's also gambled casually (illegally) and dog-sat in the past.
If someone gets around to playing a psychologist, Patrick will have seen them! He probably meets criteria for bipolar II disorder and has previously taken psychotropic medication of some type. He has these mood swings-- one moment he'll be on top of the world, bulletproof ego; the next he will shut himself up in his parents' basement or wander around the woods by himself for days and be doing a lot of alcohol, marijuana and some other stuff. At the time of the game opening he will probably be experiencing jitters and restlessness from withdrawal of something.
When Pat is around people, he is a personable, functional, and whimsical guy with a tendency to flirt, rude in a way that doesn't cross the line for most people. His fights and other problematic interactions occur at a ratio of 1:100 with conversation that goes just swimmingly. He probably lost his virginity at age 12 or something! In other words, people tend to like him immediately and know there's something wrong just as soon, especially in this tiny town, expansive as reputation is. His advertised cheer and charm and occasional overtures of pragmatic help-seeking conceal an utterly self-absorbed, immolating misery and very little real motivation to change.
His hobbies include use of alcohol and narcotics, watching film, listening to music, fornication, making homemade movies, electronics (e.g., building own computers, some basic repairs), fishing and hunting, and partially reading books. Also homewrecking (see Wendy Darling).
